Tharoor argues against discarding English, targets colonial mindset
Shashi Tharoor, a Congress MP, wrote about the English-Macaulay debate.
He said that English has helped India and should not be discarded.
Instead, the colonial mindset that came with it should be rejected.
He mentioned that Thomas Macaulay, a British official, wanted to create Indians who thought like the British.
This was not to help India but to make it easier for the British to rule.
Tharoor said that English was used by Indians to fight for independence and should not be blamed for the problems caused by the colonial mindset.
He also said that English is still important in India, even though some politicians criticize it.
He believes that India should keep English but not let it be the only way to validate itself.
