Bengal Government Plans Raksha Bandhan With Rabindra, Folk Performances

The West Bengal government plans to celebrate Raksha Bandhan across the state on August 28.

Raksha Bandhan is a festival where people exchange or tie rakhis.

The celebrations will include songs and dances connected with Rabindranath Tagore.

Local folk performers will also present traditional music, including baul.

Events will happen in Kolkata and in districts across Bengal.

Officials have been asked to arrange programs in wards, blocks and subdivisions.

People will receive Tricolour-themed rakhis for the celebrations.

The government says the events are meant to encourage unity, friendship and social harmony.

Rabindranath Tagore had earlier used rakhi-tying to promote solidarity between communities.
