PFRDA Plans NPS Expansion with Commodities, AIFs and New Schemes
The PFRDA is changing the National Pension System (NPS) to offer more investment choices.
Soon, people can invest in things like gold, silver, and unlisted companies through Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs).
The goal is to make NPS more attractive to everyone, especially younger workers.
A new system will allow investment in different schemes, even up to 100% equity.
There's a 15-year minimum investment, but people might be able to withdraw funds after this period.
The change also may lead to a reduction in required annuitization to 20%.
However, there are concerns about how these changes will affect taxes and long-term retirement security.
PFRDA is revising the NPS investment framework.
Expansion includes commodities (gold, silver) and AIFs.
AIF investments may be classified as a separate asset class.
Multiple scheme framework allows investment in more than one scheme.
Subscribers could be allowed to exit NPS after 15 years.
