Karnataka HC Suggests Scrapping 30-Year-Old Bengaluru-Mysuru Infra Corridor
The Karnataka High Court has suggested that a very old project called the Bengaluru-Mysuru Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC), which was started in 1995, should be scrapped and a new project should be started instead.
The court said that the project has not made any real progress in 35 years and has only existed on paper.
They also mentioned that there are over 2,000 legal cases related to this project, which is causing a lot of problems.
The court wants the government to look at the project again and decide what to do next.
They also said that a lot of land is being held by the project people, and tolls are being collected, but the expressway has not been built.
The Karnataka High Court suggested scrapping the 30-year-old Bengaluru-Mysuru Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project and starting a new one.
The project, conceived in 1995, aimed to build a four-lane expressway between Mysuru and Bengaluru, expandable to six lanes, and five satellite townships.
The court noted that the project has remained only on paper for 35 years, with no townships developed and only one kilometer constructed in over 25 years.
Over 2,000 litigation cases are pending related to the BMIC project, clogging the high court and other courts.
The court directed the state government to re-look at the project and take appropriate steps for a fresh start, discarding the old one.
