Noel Tata defends 1989 Tata Sons share transfer in letter

Noel Tata defends 1989 Tata Sons share transfer in letter

This story is about the Tata companies and some very important shares.

A long time ago, in 1989, a charity called the Navajbai Ratan Tata Trust gave 833 shares to a man named Naval Tata.

The charity is a public trust, which means it is supposed to help people.

Some people think the shares were given away without following the rules.

They complained to the charity commissioner, the official who watches over charities in Maharashtra.

The charity commissioner asked Noel Tata, the chairman of Tata Trusts, to explain what happened.

Noel Tata wrote a letter saying the transfer was fair and legal.

He said the trust received value for the shares and the proper people approved the deal.

Another official, Vijay Singh, also asked for an independent inquiry to check the facts.

Tata Trusts says the transfer followed the law that existed at the time.
