Mamata lays foundation for Rs 1,670-crore Sagar Island bridge

Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, started building a big bridge called Gangasagar Setu.

This bridge will connect Sagar Island to the mainland.

Right now, people can only go to the island by ferry, which can be very crowded, especially during a big festival called Gangasagar Mela.

The bridge will cost Rs 1,670 crore and is expected to be finished in two to three years.

A company called Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T) will build it.

This bridge will make it easier for people to visit the island, especially during the festival.

However, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari says the project lacks necessary clearances and land acquisition, calling it a pre-election stunt.

He suggests a different type of bridge is needed to avoid hampering vessel movement.
