Mumbai Airport Busts Gold Smuggling Racket
Mumbai Airport Customs officers caught two people trying to smuggle gold.
One was a passenger from Sri Lanka, and the other was a worker at the airport.
They found gold dust worth ₹1.17 crore hidden in a washroom.
The passenger said he was carrying the gold for someone else, and the worker admitted to taking it for money.
This is not the first time this has happened at the airport.
Earlier, they caught another group trying to smuggle even more gold.
The officers think this could be a bigger problem if not stopped.
Mumbai Airport Customs officers arrested a Sri Lankan national and an airport staff member for smuggling gold worth ₹1.17 crore.
The gold was found hidden in a washroom near the departure area, with a net weight of 870 grams.
The passenger, Mohamed Adam, admitted to carrying the gold for someone else, while the staff member, Harsath, admitted to taking it for ₹15,000.
This is the second such incident in two days, with a previous arrest involving a Bangladeshi national and another staff member smuggling gold worth ₹2.15 crore.
Officials warn that such smuggling activities could pose a threat to national security if left unchecked.
