28.5 Crore Rupees Seized from West Bengal Bus Driver's Home
A police raid in West Bengal found a huge amount of money and gold in the house of a former bus driver named Minar Mondal.
They took 28.5 crore rupees in cash and 15 kilograms of gold.
Minar is related to a stone trader, Tulu Mondal, who has been in trouble before.
The police are looking into whether the money was earned illegally.
In India, if someone is caught with unaccounted wealth, they can face 3 to 7 years in jail and a fine.
Police seized 28.5 crore rupees in cash and 15 kg of gold bars from former government bus driver Minar Mondal's house in Birbhum, West Bengal.
Minar Mondal is a relative of stone trader Tulu Mondal, who is linked to TMC’s Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal.
Tulu Mondal has a history of controversies, including a 2022 murder case arrest and investigations into cattle smuggling and stone trade.
The seizure follows earlier large cash recoveries in India, such as 351 crore rupees from former MP Dhiraj Prasad Sahu and 196 crore rupees from businessman Piyush Jain.
Under India’s Prevention of Money Laundering Act, the offence is non-bailable and carries 3 to 7 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine.
