Raksha Bandhan 2026: Schools’ Holiday Plans Vary Across India
Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated on August 28, 2026.
Schools in several northern and central states are expected to close for the festival.
These states include Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Bihar, and others.
In Jharkhand, an order cancelling the holiday was withdrawn.
Many schools in southern and northeastern states may stay open.
Government school systems such as Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas include Raksha Bandhan in their holiday calendars.
Private and international schools can make their own decisions.
Students and parents should check their school’s calendar or local notices.
Schools in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Uttarakhand are expected to close on August 28 for Raksha Bandhan.
In Jharkhand, an earlier order cancelling the Raksha Bandhan holiday has been withdrawn.
Schools in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana may remain open because the festival is generally not a mandatory public-school holiday there.
Schools in Assam, Meghalaya, and Nagaland are also expected to remain open.
Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas observe the festival as a holiday, while private and international schools may follow different schedules.
