Delhi Traffic Curbs Target Key Roads During BRICS Summit
Delhi is changing traffic rules because India is hosting the BRICS leaders’ meeting.
The main restrictions apply on September 12 from 9:30 in the morning until 9:30 at night.
More than 35 roads may have controlled traffic, with diversions at about 22 points.
Roads near Bharat Mandapam and Pragati Maidan will have especially tight security.
Other important roads across central, south and Lutyens’ Delhi may also be restricted when important convoys pass.
Traffic will not stop everywhere, and roads outside the controlled areas may continue operating normally.
People going to the airport or railway stations should leave early and consider taking the Metro.
Emergency vehicles will be given priority.
Some traffic arrangements may continue on September 13 as the summit concludes.
Traffic will be regulated across more than 35 Delhi roads from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on September 12.
Around 22 diversion points will manage movement during VIP and VVIP convoy movements.
Key affected areas include Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, Mathura Road, Ring Road, Bhairon Marg, Tilak Marg, NH-48 and Lutyens’ Delhi.
Commuters are advised to avoid controlled corridors, plan extra travel time and use the Delhi Metro where possible.
Alternative routes are available for airports and railway stations; emergency vehicles receive priority, while parking and some goods-vehicle movements face restrictions.
