Ladakh Delegates Land-Use Approval to Local Officials for Rural Development
Ladakh is a region in India where people want to build houses or small shops.
The governor, Vinai Kumar Saxena, said that local officials can now approve many of these projects, so it will be faster.
The Divisional Commissioner can approve smaller plots, the Chief Secretary can approve slightly larger ones, and the governor still looks at the biggest plots.
This helps people in villages get their projects done more quickly, but they still need other permits.
The new rules will stay in place until official planning documents are ready.
Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena authorized the Chief Secretary and Divisional Commissioner to approve land‑use changes for plots up to two acres outside municipal limits.
Divisional Commissioner can approve changes for plots above two kanals up to four kanals; Chief Secretary for plots above four kanals up to two acres; larger plots still need the Lieutenant Governor.
The move aims to speed up decisions and reduce procedural hurdles for rural residents building homes, shops, or small industrial units.
Applicants may still need building permits and other regulatory approvals, and the Revenue Department will issue detailed guidelines.
The interim rules will remain until formal Master Plans and Zonal Development Plans are notified.
