Jammu and Kashmir Allows One-Time Switch From NPS to OPS
Jammu and Kashmir is letting some government workers change from the National Pension System to the Old Pension Scheme.
This is a one-time choice.
It is for workers whose jobs were advertised before December 24, 2009, but who started work on or after January 1, 2010.
They must apply by December 28, 2026.
Workers who do not apply will stay in the NPS.
Applications will be checked by government officials.
If approved, their NPS accounts will close and they will join the General Provident Fund.
The All India NPS Employees Federation said the decision helps workers recruited under older job advertisements.
Jammu and Kashmir approved a one-time option for certain NPS-covered employees to shift to the Old Pension Scheme.
The option applies to employees whose posts or vacancies were advertised or notified before December 24, 2009, but who joined service on or after January 1, 2010.
Eligible employees must apply through their Drawing and Disbursing Officer by December 28, 2026; otherwise, they will remain under the NPS.
Applications will be reviewed by the Head of Department or appointing authority and the concerned Administrative Department, which must verify eligibility and issue an order within one month.
Approved employees will have their NPS accounts closed, move under General Provident Fund rules, and complete the transition within 120 days of the coverage order.
