Uttarakhand Exports King Roat Apples to UAE, Eyes Expansion
Uttarakhand, a state in India, is starting to export its special King Roat apples to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
They sent a small test shipment to see how it goes.
If successful, they plan to send much more by ship.
The government hopes this will help farmers earn more money by selling their apples abroad.
The apples will compete with those from other countries.
Experts are working on making sure the apples can be shipped and stored properly so they stay fresh.
This is part of a larger plan to sell more agricultural products from Uttarakhand to other countries.
Uttarakhand exported 1.2 metric tonnes of King Roat apples to the UAE, a first for the state.
The government plans an 8-metric-tonne sea shipment from Harsil following the trial.
APEDA facilitated the trial shipment to assess market viability and refine logistics.
Uttarakhand's primary exports have been jaggery, confectionery, and guar gum, with Rs 201 crore contribution.
Experts note that Uttarakhand's apple varieties face competition in international markets.
