Maharashtra Launches Nation's Largest Farm Debt Relief

The Maharashtra government has started a big program to help farmers by forgiving their loans.

They began by helping seven farmers and plan to help 17 lakh more by July 31.

The government will check to make sure only the right farmers get the help.

The rest will get help in later phases.

The total amount being forgiven is Rs 13,000 crore.

Farmers who have been regular in their loan repayments will also receive Rs 50,000 directly in their accounts.

The government is also waiving Rs 48,000 crore in outstanding electricity bills for 50 lakh farmers.

By December or March, all farmers are expected to receive 12 hours of uninterrupted daytime power supply.

The government has also introduced an AI app called Maha Vistar to help farmers with personalised guidance on farming techniques.
