From Radio Repair Teen to Billionaire Bose Audio Pioneer

Amar Bose grew up in Philadelphia in a family that faced financial hardship and racism.

When he was 13, he started fixing radios in his parents’ basement to help earn money.

He became very interested in electronics and classical music.

After studying at MIT, he noticed that expensive speakers did not sound as good as he expected.

This made him research how people hear sound.

He started Bose Corporation in 1964 to develop new audio technology.

His company later became famous for speakers and noise-cancelling headphones.

Bose also taught at MIT for about 45 years.

Before he died in 2013, he gave most of his company’s stock to MIT to support education.
