Kerala HR Panel Orders Rs 1 Lakh Compensation for Tortured Worker
A human rights panel in Kerala has told the government to pay a construction worker ₹1 lakh.
This is because the worker said a police officer tortured him while he was in custody three years ago.
The panel chairperson said the government can take this money back from the police officer, who is still a sub-inspector.
The Kerala State Human Rights Commission ordered Rs 1 lakh compensation for a construction worker.
The worker allegedly suffered custodial torture by a police officer three years ago.
Commission Chairperson Justice Alexander Thomas issued the order.
The government has been directed to recover the compensation amount from the accused officer, P R Rahul.
P R Rahul is currently serving as a sub-inspector in the state police.
