Supreme Court Halts Mumbai Dargah Demolition
A religious building called a dargah near Mumbai was going to be torn down, according to the government.
The people who run the dargah, the Balpeer Shah Charitable Trust, went to the highest court to stop it.
The court has stopped any work for now.
The court will listen to both sides and make a final decision in about a month.
The Trust says the building is old.
The government says the building is not supposed to be there.
The Supreme Court issued a status quo, halting demolition of the Bale Shah Peer Dargah near Mumbai.
The Balpeer Shah Charitable Trust filed a petition against the demolition threat.
Maharashtra's Revenue Minister publicly stated the structure would be demolished by May 20.
The Trust argued a police notice and the Minister's statements indicated imminent demolition.
The Supreme Court will hear the case again in four weeks, awaiting the state's response.
