Farmers Urge Karnataka CM to Visit Tamil Nadu Delta
The Cauvery Farmers' Association is a group of farmers who grow rice in Tamil Nadu.
They want the chief minister of Karnataka, D K Shivakumar, to visit their rice fields if the Tamil Nadu chief minister, C Joseph Vijay, goes to talk with Karnataka.
The farmers say that seeing the damage to the rice will help them protect their crops.
They also worry that a new water reservoir might hurt their farming.
The farmers want to make sure their rights are not given away during these talks.
Cauvery Farmers' Association urged Karnataka CM D K Shivakumar to visit Tamil Nadu delta districts if CM C Joseph Vijay proceeds with bilateral talks.
Farmers claim Karnataka CM is arranging an aerial survey of Karnataka dams during Vijay's August 3 visit.
They argue a reciprocal visit would let the Karnataka CM see real-time damage to Kuruvai paddy crops.
Farmers oppose using political dialogues to facilitate construction of a balancing reservoir at Mekedatu that could harm Tamil Nadu agriculture.
The association insists that legally obtained rights should not be surrendered in the name of bilateral talks.
