India Balances Strategic Autonomy and Multilateralism at BRICS Summit

India Balances Strategic Autonomy and Multilateralism at BRICS Summit

India is getting ready to lead a major group called BRICS.

The group includes countries with different friendships and disagreements.

India wants BRICS to help developing countries have more influence in world affairs.

It also does not want BRICS to become a group mainly against Western countries.

India may propose stronger supply chains for food, energy, minerals, and factories.

It may also encourage digital cooperation and trade using members’ own currencies.

However, disagreements among countries could make it hard to agree on common plans.

India’s challenge is to keep the group working together while protecting its own independent foreign policy.
