Tripura CM Urges Doctors to Upgrade Skills Amidst Hospital Land Lease Debate
The leader of Tripura, who is also a doctor, told other doctors that they need to learn new things to get better at their jobs.
He said this because even though they have built new, advanced medical services in the public hospital, people still have to travel to other states for treatment.
He also said that it's good for the state to let a private hospital group, called Shija Hospitals, build a new facility and that this will help people get better care closer to home.
He mentioned that Shija Hospital has already done successful surgeries like kidney transplants, showing that private help can improve healthcare.
The government is supporting this by giving them land and wants this to create more jobs and help the state grow.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, a maxillofacial surgeon, urged doctors to upgrade their skills to enhance super-speciality healthcare services.
Saha highlighted that despite investing Rs 250 crore in nine super-speciality services at GBP Hospital, patients still require treatment outside the state.
He defended the government's decision to lease land to private hospital groups like Shija Hospitals, citing their success in procedures like kidney transplants.
The foundation stone was laid for Shija Superspeciality Hospital at RK Nagar on the outskirts of Agartala.
The initiative aims to strengthen healthcare, create employment opportunities, and foster state development.

Land Lease for Private Hospital Development
Government's Position
The government is leasing land to private entities like Shija Hospitals to enhance super-speciality services, create employment, and boost the state's development, acknowledging Shija Hospital's success in facilitating kidney transplants.
Public Health Advocates/Critics
Concerns exist that leasing state land to private hospitals might detract from strengthening public healthcare infrastructure, although the government argues it complements existing services and addresses the need for advanced treatment within the state.
Role of Doctors in Healthcare Improvement
Government's Position
Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasized that doctors must continuously upgrade their skills to effectively utilize the newly launched super-speciality services in public hospitals and to meet the advanced treatment needs of patients, preventing the necessity for out-of-state medical care.
Public Health Advocates/Critics
While doctors' skill upgrades are crucial, the focus should also be on adequate investment and resources within the public healthcare system to fully leverage these services and ensure accessibility for all citizens, not just those who can afford private care.
