Abu Dhabi Observatory Captures Stunning Image of Lion Nebula
Imagine looking up at the night sky, but seeing something that took 10,000 years to reach your eyes!
That's what happened when a special telescope in Abu Dhabi took a picture of a giant cloud in space called the Lion Nebula.
This nebula is like a huge colorful cloud made of dust and gas, and it's so big it takes 270 years just to travel across it!
The light we see from it started its journey towards Earth when people were living a very, very long time ago.
Two super-big stars nearby shine light on the nebula, making parts glow red (from hydrogen) and blue (from oxygen).
Scientists used a special filter to make the picture clearer, even with city lights.
This is one of many amazing space pictures taken by astronomers in the UAE this year.
The Al Khatim Astronomical Observatory in Abu Dhabi has captured an image of the Lion Nebula.
The nebula is located approximately 10,000 light-years from Earth in the constellation Cepheus.
The captured image required a 32-hour observation session, and the light from the nebula began its journey around 8,000 BC.
The Lion Nebula is vast, spanning 270 light-years across and illuminated by two massive stars, HD 21156 and HD 211853.
Special optical filters were used to enhance visibility by reducing light pollution, revealing the red and blue hues caused by ionized hydrogen and oxygen.
