Andhra Pradesh Allows Ayurvedic Doctors to Perform Surgeries
The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to let some Ayurvedic doctors do surgeries.
These doctors have special training and can do 39% of general surgeries and 19% of ear, nose, throat, and eye treatments.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) is not happy with this decision.
They think it's a big mistake and will cause problems for patients.
The IMA respects Ayurveda but wants it to stay separate from modern medicine.
They have written to the government but haven't gotten a response.
There is also a court case about this issue.
Andhra Pradesh government approves Ayurvedic doctors to perform surgeries with postgraduate qualifications and prescribed training.
Eligible Ayurvedic doctors can perform 39% of general surgical and 19% of ENT and ophthalmological treatments.
IMA President Dr. Dilip P. Bhanushali opposes the decision, citing potential problems for patients and the integrity of Ayurveda.
IMA has written to the Health Minister and Prime Minister but received no communication.
A PIL regarding this issue is pending in the Supreme Court.
