Women's Self Help Groups: Accessing Schemes and Benefits
Imagine a group of women getting together to help each other.
These are called Self Help Groups or SHGs.
Each woman puts in a small amount of money every month.
When someone in the group needs help, they can use this money.
SHGs also let women get loans from banks without needing to put up anything as security and learn new skills.
The government also helps by paying some of the interest on loans, up to a certain amount.
To start an SHG, women need to find others who want to join, choose leaders, open a bank account together, and register the group.
This helps them get special benefits and support from the government.
Self Help Groups (SHGs) consist of 10–20 women who save money and support each other.
SHGs enable members to access government schemes, bank loans, and skill training.
To form an SHG, women need to gather, assign roles, start saving, and open a bank account.
Registration is done at the local block or panchayat office to access official benefits.
Registered SHGs can get collateral-free bank loans, interest subsidies, and business support.
