UT Reconsiders 24/7 Water Supply Project
The Chandigarh Administration is thinking again about a big project to give water 24 hours a day to everyone in the city.
The project is costing much more than they thought it would, and people are worried about the extra money they'll have to pay.
The administration is going to talk about this in a meeting on November 28.
They might decide to do smaller improvements instead of the big project.
If they cancel the project, they'll have to pay a lot of money to the people who lent them the money for it.
Chandigarh Administration reconsidering 24/7 water supply project due to cost escalation and public resistance.
Project cost increased from Rs 412 crore to Rs 638.08 crore, a rise of Rs 226.08 crore.
French development bank AFD has temporarily suspended project activities.
Residents may face higher tariffs if the project proceeds, with additional increases beyond 2019 proposals.
Cancellation of the loan could result in a penalty of Rs 19.73 crore.
