Gurumurthy: Western Interests Mischaracterise Indian Gen Z as Rebels
A wise Indian thinker named S Gurumurthy gave a big speech at a school in Chennai.
He spoke to more than 1,200 teachers and students.
He said some people from Western countries are telling a false story about Indian young people.
The story says Indian kids hate their families, their traditions, and their religion.
Mr. Gurumurthy believes the story is made up to help Western companies and politicians.
He showed that many Indian young people actually love their traditions.
Huge numbers of them visit temples and the Kumbh Mela, a big religious festival.
He thinks people should not believe the made-up story.
He wants everyone to look at the real lives of Indian young people instead.
S Gurumurthy spoke at Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan (PSPB) school in Chennai during the centenary celebrations of Mrs. YGP.
He told over 1,200 teachers and students that media portrayals of Indian Gen Z as anti-tradition and anti-family are part of a Western 'intellectual war.'
He contrasted Western youth who enjoy 1970s-80s music and 1960s books with what he called an artificially manufactured rebellious Gen Z image in India.
He cited massive youth turnout at temples and the Kumbh Mela as evidence that most young Indians remain engaged in traditional and spiritual life.
He criticised 'methodological individualism' used by some Indian intellectuals and said his claims have gone unchallenged in weeks of public discourse; his remarks were covered by The Hindu and shared widely on X.
Organizers said the largely Gen Z student audience repeatedly and enthusiastically applauded his points.
