UP Jewellers Ban Burqa, Mask Entry Citing Security Risks
Jewellery shops in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have started barring customers who cover their faces with burqas, masks, or helmets.
This rule was made by a big group of jewellers to keep shops safe because there have been more thefts lately.
Shops have put up signs saying no one can enter if their face is covered.
Some jewellers say this is unfair and might lose customers, but others think it's necessary for safety.
The rule says Muslim women can wear burqas but must show their faces inside the shop.
Some people say this is not wrong because everyone has the right to feel safe.
Jewellery traders in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have banned entry to customers with covered faces.
The rule was implemented statewide from January 8, following directions from the All India Jewellers and Gold Federation (AIJGF).
Shops have put up 'No Entry' signs for customers wearing burqas, hijabs, niqabs, masks, helmets, or veils.
The ban is due to rising gold and silver prices making jewellery stores more vulnerable to crime.
Some jewellers oppose the ban, saying it is insulting and might drive away customers.
