Former NRC Coordinator Claims Millions of Foreigners in NRC
Imagine a list of all the citizens in a place.
This list, called the NRC, was made to make sure everyone who should be on it is.
Now, a former important person in charge of making the list says that many people who shouldn't be on the list, like people from other countries, were added.
He says the checks weren't done correctly, so it was easier for the wrong names to get in.
Because of this, he thinks that the list may be wrong, and lots of people who shouldn't be included are.
He thinks there might be even some local people missing.
Now they might need to check the list all over again to make sure it is correct.
Former NRC coordinator Hitesh Dev Sarma claims lakhs of foreign nationals were included in the National Register of Citizens.
Sarma stated that around 13.2 lakh names were included without proper verification.
Sample surveys revealed around 40% errors in areas like Dalgaon and Baghbar.
He believes 60 to 70 lakh foreigners might be in the NRC.
Sarma also said that indigenous people's names were excluded due to poor quality checks.
