Government Lowers Sugar Production Estimate Due to Crop Diseases

Government Lowers Sugar Production Estimate Due to Crop Diseases

The government expects less sugar to be produced this season than first predicted.

The season runs from October through September.

The new estimate is about 306 LMT of sugar.

The earlier estimate was about 343 LMT.

This is a decrease of about 10.79%, or roughly 11%.

Two sugarcane diseases, called Red Rot and Top Borer, damaged crops.

Too much rain also caused waterlogging in fields.

These problems lowered the expected sugar production.
