Israel's Democrats Launch Election Campaign
A big leftist party in Israel called HaDemokratim, which means The Democrats, has started its campaign for the upcoming election in October.
The party is led by Yair Golan, who used to be a high-ranking military officer.
It is made up of two older left-wing parties, Labour and Meretz.
The Democrats are known for supporting a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine, which means they want both Israel and Palestine to have their own countries.
In the last election, they didn't do very well, but now they hope to win about 10 seats in the parliament.
Some important people in their party are Gaby Lasky, a lawyer who works for peace, and Moshe Radman, who was a leader in protests against the current government.
At their campaign launch in Tel Aviv, Yair Golan said their main goal is to set up a special group to investigate a big attack that happened on October 7, 2023.
HaDemokratim, Israel's largest leftist party, launched its campaign for the October legislative election.
The party is led by Yair Golan and is a fusion of the Labour Party and Meretz.
It is projected to win about 10 seats in the upcoming election.
The party is the only non-Arab party supporting the two-state solution in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Key candidates include lawyer Gaby Lasky and protest leader Moshe Radman, with a priority on forming a commission of inquiry into the October 7, 2023 attack.
