Parliamentary Panel Urges Monitoring of Foreign Powers in Bangladesh
India’s parliament has a committee that looks at foreign affairs.
They are worried that China is building big projects in Bangladesh, like a port and an airbase, which could be a security risk for India.
The committee says India should watch what China does in Bangladesh and make sure its borders are safe.
They also want India to use new technology like drones and cameras to keep an eye on the border.
Finally, they think helping people in border areas with jobs and schools can stop smuggling and illegal migration.
Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, led by Shashi Tharoor, urges India to monitor foreign powers in Bangladesh.
The panel is concerned about China’s growing influence in Bangladesh’s infrastructure, ports, and defense projects.
Bangladesh signed a $370 million Mongla Port expansion with China in March 2025; China also works on Lalmonirhat airbase and a Pekua submarine base.
Committee recommends India strengthen border security with advanced surveillance and multi‑agency coordination to curb illegal migration and cross‑border crime.
It stresses socio‑economic development in border areas to reduce vulnerability to smuggling and migration.
