Bihar Teen Recovers from Rare Blood Cancer After Complex Bone Marrow Transplant
A 14-year-old boy named Harsh from a village far away got a very rare and serious type of blood cancer.
Doctors in his hometown couldn't help him, so his family took him to a special hospital in Mumbai.
He had a type of leukemia that is hard to treat and doesn't usually get better with normal medicine.
The doctors decided to do a bone marrow transplant, which is a big operation to replace his sick bone marrow with healthy cells.
They couldn't find a perfect match in his family, so they used cells that were only half a match, which is very difficult.
Harsh also got very sick after the transplant with a virus, but the doctors and nurses took very good care of him.
Now, he is all better, the cancer is gone, and he is back at school living a normal life.
Fourteen-year-old Harsh Raj from Bihar has fully recovered from a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer.
He underwent a complex haploidentical (50% matched) bone marrow transplant at Narayana Health SRCC Children’s Hospital in Mumbai.
Harsh was diagnosed with Mixed Phenotypic Leukemia (MPL), a rare cancer accounting for less than 10% of childhood leukemia cases.
His recovery was complicated by a severe BK virus infection, which was successfully managed.
His case highlights the importance of early diagnosis and access to advanced specialized care for children in remote areas.
