Punjab Amends PSPCL CMD Appointment Guidelines
The Punjab government changed the rules for who can be the head of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL).
Before, only very high-ranking government officers (called Secretary-rank IAS officers) could be chosen for this job.
Now, they can also pick officers who are just a bit lower in rank (Principal Secretary-rank).
This change happened because some people were upset that a Secretary-rank officer was given this important job.
The engineers' association, PSEBEA, is very upset about this change.
They say the government did not talk to them before making this change, which is against the rules.
The government then transferred 17 engineers, including some leaders of PSEBEA, which made the situation even more tense.
PSEBEA wants the government to take back the new rules and appoint someone with the right technical skills as the head of PSPCL.
Punjab government amended guidelines for PSPCL CMD appointment to include Principal Secretary and Secretary-rank IAS officers.
Notification issued on Monday to address the controversy over a secretary-rank IAS officer's appointment.
PSEBEA strongly opposes the amendment, stating it violates the tripartite agreement and dilutes qualifications.
PSPCL transferred 17 engineers, including key PSEBEA office-bearers, on Tuesday evening.
PSEBEA demands the withdrawal of the amended guidelines and the appointment of a technocrat as CMD.
