China Launches Tsunami Center and Deep-Sea Test Site
China has launched a new center in the South China Sea to provide early warnings for dangerous ocean events like tsunamis and heatwaves.
The center is in Sanya, China and it will also work with other countries to share information about potential hazards.
This area is prone to natural disasters because of active fault lines and seismic activity.
Along with the tsunami center, China also launched a deep-sea test site to help scientists with research and technology.
The launches happened on World Ocean Day and the South China Sea is also a disputed area.
China launched the South China Sea Tsunami Advisory Centre on June 8.
The launch coincided with World Ocean Day.
The center is located in Sanya, Hainan province.
The facility will provide early warnings for marine disasters.
