Delhi Imposes Stage 3 Pollution Curbs as Air Quality Turns Severe
Delhi's air has become very dirty, reaching a 'severe' level, which is not good for breathing.
Because of this, the government has put stricter rules in place, like stopping most construction work and telling younger children to learn from home.
These rules are part of a plan that gets tougher as the air gets worse.
The bad air is happening because the wind isn't blowing much, and the weather conditions are trapping the dirty air close to the ground.
This plan has different stages, and they've now activated the third, more serious stage.
These rules will stay until the air gets cleaner again.
Some older cars that pollute more are also restricted.
Delhi's air quality has deteriorated to the 'Severe' category with an AQI of 425, prompting the imposition of Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) cited calm winds, a stable atmosphere, and unfavorable meteorological conditions for the rapid increase in pollution.
Stage III curbs include a ban on non-essential construction and demolition activities, closure of stone crushers, and suspension of mining.
Restrictions are also placed on the use of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheeler vehicles, with exemptions for persons with disabilities.
Classes up to Grade 5 are advised to shift to a hybrid or online learning mode.
