India's Mobile Alert System Warns of Disasters in Regional Languages
India has a special system that sends warning messages to people's phones about disasters like cyclones, floods, and avalanches.
These messages are in the local language and are sent to specific areas where the disaster might happen.
The system uses information from different agencies like the India Meteorological Department and the Central Water Commission.
The messages are sent through all mobile networks, even in remote areas.
The goal is to help people stay safe by giving them time to prepare before a disaster happens.
India's mobile-based disaster alert system issues geo-targeted warnings in regional languages.
The system covers disasters like cyclones, tsunamis, heavy rainfall, lightning, flash floods, thunderstorms, hailstorms, avalanches, cloudbursts, and industrial or man-made disasters.
The warnings are generated by five agencies and disseminated through the Cell Broadcast Alert System.
The alerts are translated into the state language of the target population by the respective State Disaster Management Authorities (SDMAs).
The system aims to reduce disaster-related casualties and improve emergency preparedness.
