Fairfax Leads Race for IDBI Bank Stake
Fairfax Financial, a company from Toronto, is the leading contender to buy a big part of IDBI Bank from the Indian government and LIC.
They might pay all in cash, which could make their offer stronger.
Kotak Mahindra Bank is also in the running, but they might use a mix of cash and shares.
Both companies have already been approved by the Reserve Bank of India.
The bank's stock price has gone up a lot since the government first said they wanted to sell their share.
The total value of the bank is now about 1.02 trillion dollars.
Fairfax Financial is the frontrunner to acquire a 60.72% stake in IDBI Bank from the government and LIC.
Kotak Mahindra Bank is also a significant contender, considering a mix of cash and shares for the offer.
Fairfax is weighing an all-cash bid aligning with IDBI Bank’s current market valuation.
IDBI Bank's market capitalisation is around 1.02 trillion, with a share price of 95 dollars.
Both Fairfax and Kotak have been vetted by the Reserve Bank of India and deemed fit to submit financial bids.
