BJP leader Altaf Thakur apologises for anti-women slogans at rally

In India, there is a big political party called the BJP.

The party held a celebration rally in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir to mark the end of a special rule called Article 370.

During the rally, some people shouted unkind words about women.

A BJP leader named Altaf Thakur said sorry to anyone who felt hurt by those words.

He said women are like our sisters, mothers and daughters, and the party respects their dignity.

He explained that only a few individuals said those mean things, and their words are not the party's official view.

He also said the party has worked to help women, including giving them 33 per cent reservation.

A leader from another group, the National Conference, said such insults hurt the whole society, not just one person.

Apologising is important because it helps make things right when people are hurt.
