Doctors Urge Junk Food Ad Ban and Celebrity Endorsement Curbs

In India, many doctors and health experts are worried about junk food.

Junk food is food with too much sugar, salt, or fat, like biscuits, chocolates, instant noodles and sugary drinks.

Eating too much of it can make people sick and can cause diseases like diabetes and heart problems.

Many Indian adults, and even children, are becoming overweight.

The doctors say big companies use fun cartoons, famous celebrities, and exciting ads to make children want junk food.

So the doctors wrote letters to the government asking it to stop such advertisements on TV and the internet.

They also want unhealthy food packages to carry clear warning labels, like the warnings on cigarette packs.

They want celebrities to stop telling kids to buy junk food and want schools to sell only healthy snacks.

The doctors believe children should be protected from marketing that pushes foods that are bad for them.

If the government agrees, it could help children grow up healthier.
