Indian Railways Nears Full Electrification, With 191 Route Kilometres Remaining

Indian Railways is close to electrifying all of its Broad Gauge railway tracks.

It reported that 70,311 of 70,502 route kilometres had electric service by September 30, 2026.

That means 99.7% of the network was electrified.

About 191 kilometres remained, across three states.

The article does not say which states they are.

Twenty-seven states and Union Territories had already finished electrifying their Broad Gauge networks.

India’s first electric train ran in 1925 between Bombay Victoria Terminus and Kurla Harbour.

The Ministry of Railways says it is working to finish electrifying the network.
