Gujarat Industrial Land Costs Put India’s Manufacturing Ambitions Under Pressure

Maahir Panchal says factories in Gujarat have to pay too much for land.

He says this makes it harder for manufacturers to build large and efficient plants.

Small factories may lack room for cranes, materials and future machines.

Panchal compared Gujarat land costs with cheaper factory space near Detroit.

He also said India has many small manufacturing workshops but too few large companies.

In his view, Indian factories still depend heavily on foreign machines, steel, designs and brands.

Sridhar Vembu agreed that expensive land is a serious problem.

Vembu also said high interest rates make it harder for businesses to buy modern machines.

He suggested improving transport links and creating new financing options to support manufacturing.
