Innovative Open-Air Production of Andha Yug
Andha Yug is a famous play written a long time ago.
A director named Kallol Bhattacharya decided to put on a special show of this play in an open-air setting.
He translated the play into Bengali and mixed in some Hindi.
The actors, who were part of a special training program, used their bodies and eco-friendly props to tell the story.
The show was very visual, with lots of action and special effects.
The music had a regional flavor, which made it even more special.
The actors were not all perfect, but they did a great job with the sounds and visuals, making the play a memorable experience.
Andha Yug, a 1954 play by Dharamvir Bharati, was performed in an innovative open-air production directed by Kallol Bhattacharya.
The play was translated into Bengali with some Hindi dialogue, blending Bengali cultural aesthetics with the original text.
The 24-member cast, comprising both novice and experienced actors, used eco-friendly props and their bodies to create a visual spectacle.
The performance featured live soundscape design and regional music, including verses from Jayadeva’s Gita Govinda.
The production was part of a 30-day residential workshop organized by the National School of Drama in collaboration with Ebong Amra.
