Ulhasnagar Reports 30 Suspected Dengue Cases, Ramps Up Prevention

In the city of Ulhasnagar, 30 people may have dengue, a sickness that mosquitoes spread.

The city's health department learned about these cases from private laboratories.

Dengue and other illnesses like malaria become more common in the rainy monsoon season.

Rain has left pools of still water in streets because drains are open and roads have potholes.

Still water is where mosquitoes like to lay their eggs.

Because of this, city workers are checking houses and looking for places where water collects, like flower pots, old tyres and uncovered tanks.

City health leaders held a meeting to talk about how to keep people safe.

They are asking families to have a 'dry day' at least once a week by emptying and cleaning home water containers.

The health department says everyone helping is important to stop dengue and other diseases from spreading.
