KMC Revokes Licenses of Three Employees After Taratala Collapse
A warehouse in Taratala, a part of Kolkata, fell down on 24 June and killed at least 16 people.
Three KMC workers – a geotechnical engineer, an architect, and a structural reviewer – were blamed for not following building rules.
The city council said they had been told the building was built illegally and didn’t know when it was actually built.
Because of this, the workers couldn’t give the needed safety reports.
The council revoked their licenses and blacklisted them from future city projects.
The state government is now checking other high‑rise buildings to keep people safe.
KMC revoked licenses of a geotechnical engineer, an architect, and a structural reviewer after the Taratala godown collapse.
The trio had been summoned by the Building Department and claimed construction was carried out illegally.
They said the building owner did not inform them of the actual construction date, preventing submission of required reports.
Licenses were revoked under Section 414(4) of the Kolkata Municipal Act, and the professionals were blacklisted from future KMC projects.
The collapse killed at least 16 people on 24 June, prompting a state‑level committee to audit high‑rise construction.
