New Telangana DISCOM Faces Rs 35,900-Crore Dues
The Telangana government has created a new electricity company, but it's starting with a big problem.
Two older companies owe a lot of money for electricity, and they've passed this debt to the new company.
The new company now has to collect Rs 35,900 crore from three government groups.
The biggest debt is from the Irrigation Department, which owes Rs 22,900 crore.
The government says they'll help the new company after watching how it works for a year.
But some people are worried that this could cause big problems for the electricity system in the future.
New DISCOM in Telangana inherits Rs 35,900 crore in pending power dues from existing DISCOMs.
Major debtors include the Irrigation Department (Rs 22,900 crore), HMWSSB (Rs 7,084 crore), and Mission Bhagiratha (Rs 5,972 crore).
Total estimated dues were Rs 45,398 crore, with Rs 35,900 crore transferred to the new DISCOM.
Government plans to study the functioning of all three DISCOMs for a year before providing financial support.
Existing DISCOMs aim to become financially stronger by transferring all free and subsidized power supply schemes to the new DISCOM.
