Delhi Police Deny Closure, Opposition Demands Probe
Delhi Police said that the famous Jantar Mantar place in Delhi is still open for peaceful protests and that the rumors it was closed are false.
They said only up to 1,000 people can be there at a time.
Rahul Gandhi, a leader in the opposition, said the police used force on students and wants a court‑led investigation.
Some opposition MPs protested at the Parliament building to ask for answers.
A video shows police using batons and a student with a flag being pushed onto the road.
The police say this is not true, but the opposition says it happened and wants a fair look at what happened.
Delhi Police denied claims that Jantar Mantar was closed for protests, calling reports "entirely false, misleading and devoid of facts."
Police said the site remains open for peaceful, authorized demonstrations, capped at 1,000 people per Supreme Court order.
Rahul Gandhi demanded an independent Supreme Court‑monitored committee to investigate alleged police use of force during the July 20 protest.
Opposition MPs staged a protest at Makar Dwar over the alleged police action and alleged embezzlement at the Ram Temple.
The police action video shows lathi‑charging demonstrators and a flag‑bearing student being slammed onto the road.
