Delhi Tightens Security Ahead of CJP-Led Jantar Mantar Protest

A student group called the Cockroach Janta Party planned a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

The protest is against the SIR and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Police said the group did not have permission and warned people not to join.

The group’s founder said permission was not needed at that protest site.

Authorities prepared a very large security operation, with more than 50,000 personnel planned for Saturday.

Some trains and Metro stations were shut, and internet service was suspended in part of the city.

The police also set up places to hold people and monitored routes into Delhi.

The CJP said supporters travelling to the protest had been detained in several states.

Some security experts said the restrictions were unusually severe.
