Cricket Club Fielder Accused of Finger-Click Cheating
A cricket player named Brian Devine was seen on video clicking his fingers when a ball passed the bat.
The sound made it look like the ball had hit the bat, so the umpire gave the batter out.
People on social media said this was cheating.
The league is looking into it, and the club has suspended Devine until they finish their investigation.
Brian Devine, slip fielder for Saltburn Cricket Club, allegedly clicked fingers to mimic an edge during a Division Two match on 25 July 2026.
Video shows umpire giving batsman out after Devine’s click, sparking accusations of cheating and social media backlash.
Similar incidents have been identified in previous Saltburn matches, with wicketkeeper taking unusually high numbers of catches.
The North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket League has launched a formal investigation and issued a statement of no comment until completion.
Saltburn Cricket Club suspended Devine pending the outcome of the investigation.
