SC missed chance to test federalism in Article 370 case: Khurshid
Salman Khurshid, a senior leader from the Congress party, said that the Supreme Court of India missed a big chance to test how federalism works in the country.
This chance came when the Court was looking at a case about Article 370, which gave special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Khurshid thinks the Court should have examined this issue more deeply, but it didn't because the government promised to restore the state's full status.
He believes that India's strength comes from its diversity, with different languages, cultures, and ways of life.
Another speaker, Manoj Sinha, said that it's important to listen to the people of Kashmir and understand their experiences, not just romanticize the place.
Both speakers emphasized the importance of respecting different ideas and the hope that Kashmiris hold despite their struggles.
Salman Khurshid criticized the Supreme Court for not deeply examining federalism in the Article 370 case.
The Supreme Court upheld the revocation of Article 370 but ordered the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood.
Khurshid argued that federalism, or 'unity in diversity,' is crucial for India's strength and identity.
Manoj Sinha emphasized the need to listen to Kashmiris and understand their experiences and hopes.
Both speakers highlighted the importance of respecting diverse ideas and the democratic ethos of India.
