Air India Appoints Tewolde Gebremariam as New CEO and MD
Air India is a big airplane company that flies people around the world.
The company just got a new boss named Tewolde Gebremariam.
Before this, he was the boss of another airplane company called Ethiopian Airlines.
While he was in charge there, that company grew a lot and became very successful.
It became the biggest and most profitable airline group in Africa.
Air India's leaders believe he can help Air India grow too.
The old boss, Campbell Wilson, helped Air India get better at the start.
He worked on joining parts of the company together and getting new planes.
Now the new boss will help Air India grow even bigger.
Many people are excited to see what he will do next.
Air India has appointed former Ethiopian Airlines Group chief executive Tewolde Gebremariam as its new Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director.
Gebremariam succeeds Campbell Wilson, who led the airline's initial transformation, including its merger and integration programme, fleet modernisation and governance reforms.
During his more than decade-long tenure at Ethiopian Airlines Group, Gebremariam led a multi-billion-dollar expansion that made it Africa's largest and most profitable airline group, more than quadrupling revenue and nearly tripling the fleet.
The appointment followed a global search conducted by a dedicated Board committee that evaluated both internal and external candidates.
Chairman N. Chandrasekaran said Air India is now entering a 'critical execution and expansion era' focused on becoming a premier global carrier.
