Goan Women Create 18-Foot Crochet Christmas Tree
In Goa, a group of 25 women worked together to make a huge Christmas tree out of crochet.
The tree is 18 feet tall and is made up of 1,000 different crochet squares.
Each woman made her own squares at home and then they all came together to put them on a metal frame.
The tree is on display at the Museum of Goa until January 18.
After that, they plan to use the squares to make blankets or a canopy for a public street.
This project is special because it brings together traditional craft and modern art, showing how community and creativity can make something beautiful.
An 18-foot tall Christmas tree made entirely of crochet was unveiled at the Museum of Goa.
The tree was created by 25 women from different parts of Goa, who crocheted 1,000 individual squares over three months.
The project was initiated by the Crochet Collective, co-founded by Sheena Pereira, Sharmila Majumdar, and Sophy Sivaraman.
The installation will be on display as part of MoG’s Where We Gather exhibition until January 18.
After the exhibition, the crochet squares will be repurposed into blankets for donation or a canopy for a public street.
